Tinybeans: an app based on privacy

After the past few weeks of class, I have been increasingly more aware that all forms of social media invade our privacy, whether we realize it or not. I was looking more and more into how these apps take our information when I came across an app called Tinybeans. Tinybeans is a photosharing application where the user does not give ownership away for any of the images or videos they post. The app is primarily for families to share their children's lives in a safe way. The app markets itself as a closed social network. You can upload to the app and it will just share what you post with only your family or close friends if you allow. Within the app, you can allow certain pictures to be viewed and commented on. When looking at the privacy policy online the company states it will not "sell, share, or trade the personal information you submit to any unrelated third parties, mass marketers, or to other non-affiliated entities for their marketing purposes without your consent". This was a very refreshing find and gives me some hope that not everything we put online is used for reasons we are unaware of, if this one app can do it others should follow. You can read more about the app and what cofounded Sarah-Jane Kurtini has to say by clicking here.
