Online Privacy

The rise of technology in the past years has to lead to the invasion of privacy, using online and offline surveillance. We have different "electronic tattoos" from using facebook, twitter, Google, LinkedIn, cell phones, GPS, Yelp and many more. We do not realize how much information we are giving these companies freely. These companies use this information to target us with specific ads and they invade our privacy in order to do so. Also, the rise in the use of cell phones has to lead to governments accessing the surveillance features which were built into our cell phone when they were made. However, it is not only our government that could gain access to our text messages or listen in on our phone calls but also foreign governments, stalkers, or hackers. Something many of us do not know is we have the tools within our cell phones to protect ourselves from this invasion of privacy. In recent years, Apple has been stressing the privacy they provide through the use of iMessage instead of text message and facetime and facetime audio instead of phone calls. These are harder to track and intercept, therefore, safer to use. To read more about what police can see with the use if iMessage click here. We must protect ourselves against the many types of techology that make it so easy for others to gain access to our personal information.
